Can Bloggers Make Money Online On 2010 Election?

29 January 2009 701 views 11 Comments

With only months remaining before the 2010 national election in the Philippines, I can’t help but to think “Can bloggers take advantage of the election season by making money reviewing or advertising politicians on their blog? What do you think?

Actually, the question here is… Would there be a politician now who could think of hiring bloggers as part of their campaign armada? (Hehe… Star Wars ba ito?)

If we can remember during the last national election, a lot of political candidates utilized the power of radio and television advertising in their campaign efforts because of the fact that they can reach the larger population and its much more cost effective. That ignited the new era of political campaign strategies and I think it’s only a matter of time before the internet will also be seen in the same way.

Now, here are some of the good reasons that I came up with why a politician would hire bloggers:

1. They can make buzz about you over the internet.
2. They have hundreds or even thousands of readers who could also become your potential voters.
3. They can help in spreading your policies and other political agendas to the general public.
4. They have the power to influence the online community.
5. You can see what people are thinking about you by reading through their comments on blogs.

I know my list above is quite not enough so if you have other good reasons that you could come up, just let me know to update the list.

So my fellow bloggers, here is a polling question for you:

“If a politician hires you to review or advertise him/her on your blog, would you accept or not? And why?”

Please comment your answers.

I think politicians should hire or advertise on bloggers/blogs. A lot of the middle class have internet access and are researching about these candidates.

It is best to spend a couple of millions of their campaign funds on pinoy blogs.

para sa akin, ayos lang naman na gamitin ang mga bloggers for their campaign, yun nga lang, dapat kilalanin natin yung iba blog natin. I mean, piliin natin. Hindi lang basta tanggap lang ng tanggap.

I probably would. Afterall it’s work, right? But I will be really choosy. It’s hard to write about someone you don’t believe in.

I don’t know, I imagine it would hurt their credibility more than it would help. I’m sure it would be an interesting way to earn cash, but unless you’re lucky enough to get hired by a politician you believe in, could you really write a glowing review for one you don’t? Somehow, it doesn’t feel right to me.

On the other hand, I’d write for one I believe in without asking for anything in return… so I don’t know.

Haha! This reminds me of my old post - http://www.websaytko.com/98-internet-ads-for-pulitikos.html. I guess we bloggers could really make an impact to any politician/s election career.

They have to take advantage of this powerful means of information dissemination. And hired a blogger now! haha

Thanks for the comment Winston. :)

Well if I am to answer the question… I would consider a review only to those I believe in and would accept only banner ads for the others.

I made money last 2007, not by asking politician to advertise in my blog , but by making a niche blog about election
